R E S S R E L E A S E HOW DO YOU DRINK GUNPOWDER FROM
A TOAD
At Aurora, you may encounter all these and more with the Yixing experience. 150 miles north-west of Shanghai, by the shores of enchanting Lake Tai Hu, lies the tiny village of Yixing (pronounced Eeshing) where, for over 600 years, Chinese craftsmen have been creating the beautiful, delicate and highly collectible teapots made from Zisha clay. Found nowhere else on earth, Zisha clay is acknowledged as the finest material in the world for making teapots. Why? Because it is lead and cadmium free, the teapots do not require glazing and, being porous, these exquisite works of art gradually absorb the tea oils and are thus 'seasoned' creating a superior brew retaining the tea's heat, colour, flavour and taste. Each teapot takes on a patina and character as unique as the tea brewed within. (Regular consumers say that after several years of use, tea can even be brewed simply by pouring boiling water into the well-seasoned Yixing teapot!) At Aurora, not only do we stock a range of these unusual and striking teapots, we also provide an extensive selection of the highest quality black, green, scented, blended and speciality teas. Because of the high quality of the tea, each brew may be used at least twice, with or without an Yixing pot, although you might agree that drinking gunpowder tea from a lotus blossom just might be preferable to brewing from a bag of tea dust in a cracked mug. Orders may be placed with Aurora by telephone,
fax, email, via our website or our newly opened shop where visitors are
welcomed and actively encouraged to browse and ask questions of our knowledgeable
staff.
